Foundations

EDU 101: Foundations of Education

A textbook on early childhood education exploring how larger societal structures are connected to education, alternative ways of doing schooling & educational reform, common core standards within hands on school based activities, & philosophies of education.

EDU 116: Child Development

A textbook composed of 14 units that explores development from birth to early adulthood. Students get an in depth look at brain development, theortical frameworks, and examples of what this looks like in each stage.

EDU 299 Independent Study

A textbook that guides students in developing the acts of speaking, reading, listening, and writing and ends with a thorough step by step on how to write a research paper.

Methods

EDU 104: Language Arts for Young Children

Through this resource, students will be able to discuss concepts about written language and become acquainted with the basic objectives, methods, and materials of a language arts program for young children.

EDU 105: Social Studies for Young Children

This resource includes four modules to support early childhood educators in teaching social studies. The modules include standards, curriculum, working with students, and considering multiple perspectives.

EDU 107: Creative Arts for Young Children

A textbook on early childhood education exploring creative arts through three units: poetry, music, and art appreciation.

EDU 109: Movement and Dance

A textbook where students will be able to identify approaches to reach and teach children musically. Students also learn how to work through music, harnessing the processes that underlie music learning, and outlining developmentally appropriate methods to understand the role of music in children’s lives through play, games, creativity, and music.

EDU 111: Teaching Math and Science to Young Children

A textbook on STEM methods of teaching through a grounding of early childhood education. The textbook includes 10 chapters that include theory and context of learning process & early childhood pedagogy; teaching math and science content; and differentiating for students with special needs.

EDU 130: Teaching in a Multicultural Classroom

Adapted from work in California, this 4 part textbook provides an overview of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Beginning with an introduction to DEI and Anti-bias, the textbook ends with an overview of the impacts of systemic oppression.

EDU 131: Language Arts in a Bilingual Classroom

A textbook to plan, organize and implement language arts activities in a bilingual school environment. The textbook explores reading and writing activites centering children’s literature and necessary literacy skills.

Clinical Practice

EDU 113: Field Experience

A textbook that prepares community college students’ experiences in applied classroom practices and observations. Students will be able to create activities across the content areas that support skill development addressed in the state standards in ELA/Literacy and Math as well as plan for their transition to a bachelor’s degree/education career.
